NEW CHURCH (NY KIRKE)
The smallest of the island's four round churches, it houses panels depicting the Passion of Christ.
The smallest and most recent of the island's four round churches. Built in the 12th century, it is the only one not to have been used as a watchtower during the numerous invasions. In the Middle Ages, it was known as Ecclesia Omnium Sanctorum, the Church of All Saints. Around 1550, it became Nykirke: the new church. Inside, on the central pillar, the 13-panel Passion of Christ cycle. Probably the finest frescoes on the island (circa 1250-1300).
