SRI RAJARAJESHWARA TEMPLE
Ancient temple dedicated to Shiva, built in the century and constructed entirely of laterite with a 90-ton roof, a must-see
This ancient temple dedicated to Shiva, built entirely of laterite, is of paramount importance in Hinduism, not only in Kerala but in the whole country. This massive temple, built in the 11th century, has a roof of 90 tons. It is reminiscent in its imposing beauty of the Brihadeeswarar temple of Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. It is connected with the Trichambaram Temple and with the Annapoorneswari Temple of Cherukunnu. They constitute the moonnambalams, "the three temples".
