ARSINOE BYZANTINE MUSEUM
Ecclesiastical Museum of the Arsinoe Episcopate. Precious medieval icons of St. George and the Panagia Vrefokratoussa.
This ecclesiastical museum (Βυζαντινό Μουσείο Αρσινόης/Vyzantino Mousio Arsinoïs) belongs to the Greek Orthodox episcopate (diocese) of Arsinoe covering the Polis region and headquartered in Peristerona Chrysochous with, right next door, the small Agios Mamantos Cathedral dating from 1911. The visit is quick, but there are some precious icons, including one of St. George from the 13th century and another of the Panagia Vrefokratoussa ("Virgin of the Newborn") from the 14th century. Also of note is the 18th-century carved wooden iconostasis.
