LAC D'EVRETOU
A 1.25 artificial lake classified as a Natura 2000 site, with many birds. Good tavern and old Turkish Cypriot village.
This 1.25 km2 artificial lake (Λίμνη Ευρέτου/Limni Evretou, Evretou Reservoir) was created in 1986 with a 71 m-high dam on the Stavros tis Psokas river. Rich in fish, it is above all a Natura 2000 bird reserve (buzzard, peregrine falcon, grey heron, great crested grebe...). A path runs along the northern part. In the southern part, accessible via Skoulli and Loukrounou, you'll find the good tavern Sa Buneri (10am-10pm), as well as the ruins of the village of Evretou/Dereboyu, whose 150 Cypriot inhabitants were expelled between 1960 and 1975.
