AETOFOLIES GORGE
Gorge des nids d'aigles" with panoramic platform: beautiful views of Chrysochous Bay and the EOKA war memorial.
This passage carved out by the Steni River (Φαραγγι Αετοφωλιες/Faragi Aetofolies, Eagle Nest Gorge) stretches for 2 km and owes its name "eagles' nests" to the birds of prey that once nested here. It is topped by a platform offering grandiose views over Chrysochous Bay. Here, too, stands an EOKA monument bearing the names of 17 local activists who died during the 1955-1959 war of independence. It is adorned with the bust of Evagoras Pallikaridis, who, at the age of 19, was the last Cypriot to be hanged by the British on March 14, 1957.
