BLUE LAGOON
Great place to immerse yourself in warm, milky, mineral-rich water that gushes from the bowels at Blue Lagoon
A must for your first visit! Here you can immerse yourself in the warm (38°C on average), milky, mineral-rich water that springs from the bowels of the Earth. With black volcanic rock, wisps of white smoke and the aluminum sheen of the geothermal plant, it's a feast for the eyes and the body. Access to this superb site is easy: take Route 43 to Grindavík from the Reykjavík-Keflavík expressway.
Although much sought-after by travelers from all over the world, there's plenty of space to avoid feeling too cramped. The huge swimming pool is bordered in places by lichen-covered volcanic stones (or snow, depending on the season). You can also order a drink at the half-submerged bar, or cover your face with a silica mask at the mud bar , to revitalize your skin. A small volcanic stone grotto and artificial waterfalls are part of the decor.
Warning: the silica in this water can wreak havoc on silver jewelry. Take care to remove them. And don't submerge your head in the water: your hair will quickly turn to steel wool and need several shampoos to regain its vitality.
Two hotels are located in situ silica , which is surrounded by lava and has its own lagoon, and the very select Retreat, whose suites have their own hot-water pool. However, they are not accessible to all budgets.
