The only lake on the Reykjanes peninsula, located in an environment of rugged beauty with amazing rock formations
Kleifarvatn is the only and largest lake on the Reykjanes peninsula, set in a ruggedly beautiful environment with astonishing rock formations on the shore. It is one of Iceland's deepest lakes (97 m). It has no natural drainage, so water levels can vary. On site, you'll enjoy the peace and quiet, the beautiful blue of the lake, the birds... Geothermal springs can be found on its southern shore. Legend has it that the lake is inhabited by a whale-sized monster resembling a sea serpent. Access via Route 42.
