Road to be far from everything, the time of a few tens of kilometers in the south of the peninsula
If you want to get away from it all for a few dozen kilometers, take the paved road from Grindavík to Þorlákshöfn along the south coast. Here, mountains and lava flows tumble into the sea, taking on fabulous hues with each change in weather. En route, don't miss the little church of Strandarkirkja, an important place for local believers. It is said to have been built by sailors who, lost in a storm, were guided safely to this shore by an angel.
