TRÖLLAKRÓKAR
The Illikambur high pass, the "devil of the devil", is the starting point for a 5 to 6 hour hiking trail to the Canyons canyons, the trolls'hooks. At the extreme east of the Vatnajökull glacier, these cliffs with strange shapes are dominated by the glacial séracs of Öxarfellsjökull, which form chaotic clusters at places where the slope of the glacial bed intensifies and the adhesion of the glacier decreases. From here you can take a complementary hike to the northern ridges of Kollumúli in the Viðidalur valley. The latter saw a population settling in the th century but abandoned because of the harsh winters. Beware, the track leading to it is difficult. Find out before you go.
