MONASTERO SANTA ROSA HOTEL &SPA * * * * *
Hotel, with wellness center and upscale restaurant, offering rooms with sea view in Conca dei Marini.
This ancient monastery is perched on one of the highest promontories in the area, where it appears in all its splendour! The original architecture has been fully preserved while incorporating the best of modern comfort. The twenty rooms have a splendid view of the sea and some have a magnificent terrace. The flowery park is set on a hillside, up to the swimming pool which overlooks the precipice. There is a superb wellness centre and a top-class restaurant.

We got the local Positano-Praiano bus, after missing the Sita bus, only to learn it wouldn't get us to Conca. We waited for the next Sita bus in Praiano, as the minutes ticked past our 20:15 reservation time. We got the Sita bus and got off at Hotel Belvedere around 20:30. Oh, by the way, it was me, my two kids and my wife, who had ankle strain.
We finally understood why we were asked whether we were going up or down by all the drivers. We proceeded to walk up around 600 steep stairs, winding around in narrow passages in the dark to the Monastery. It was humid. By the time we arrived (1.1km, which took us 45 min), my wife was in tears, we were all drenched in sweat and I felt awful. She had no desire to eat. How's that for context?
The food was, nevertheless excellent, with each course bringing us out of the shell a bit more. Wine list was extensive, if leaning in a more expensive direction. It was dark by the time we ate, so we didn't really get to experience the views. Nevertheless, this was the only Michelin starred meal on this trip that lived up to the hype, even with the lengthy preface. I gave location 4 stars because of the walk. We ended up taking a taxi back to Positano (130 euro) bc we couldn't imagine making our outward journey in reverse at nearly 23:30... Staff were lovely.
The spa was relaxing and we both had back-to-back 80 min relaxing massages. While the other was getting a massage, we used the thermal spa activities (highly recommend!). This included a steam room, sauna, shower (tropical, mist and rain options), foot soak with jets, warm jet tub, and lemon water and tea. Not only that, it was all to myself the entire time. Deep sigh…. I’m so relaxed now. And the staff and massage were impeccable.
