LA BASILIQUE SAINT-ANDOCHE
A beautiful Romanesque church with a modern blue-and-gold organ and a digital exhibition of its architecture.
One of the finest Romanesque churches in the region, built on the ruins of an 8th-century abbey, the Basilica de Saulieu is constructed of Auxois limestone and measures 42 m long by 25 m wide. Inside are the relics of Saint Andoche, enabling the building to be elevated to the rank of basilica. It also boasts a magnificent blue-and-gold organ, one of the most innovative in Burgundy, both visually and sonically. The organ was commissioned following a competition among visual artists. The design chosen is strikingly modern, yet blends in perfectly with the basilica's decor. The two thousand pipes can measure up to 6 m in height for the most serious! The modernity doesn't stop there: the instrument is equipped with an automaton, which plays musical programs (every Saturday in July and August). Last but not least, be sure to visit the digital gallery "The World of Saint Andoche", located in the nave on your right. Here you'll discover a 3D reconstruction of the basilica's interior architecture, as well as some of its most remarkable capitals. Some represent themes from the Old and New Testaments, while others have animal or floral themes. This is an opportunity to observe in detail the sculptural representations of this Romanesque period. Concerts are also regularly held here, especially during the Christmas season.

Merveilleux moment. Merci à elle.
Phénomène rare et désolant alors que la plupart des églises alentours sont ouvertes!
