ST. LAWRENCE CHURCH
Well-preserved St. Lawrence Church in Ename with a remarkable mural painting in pure Byzantine style from the early 11th century.
The Church of Saint-Laurent is the one and only surviving building from the 10th century, and few pre-Romanesque churches are so well preserved. But the intrinsic value of the building lies in its imperial character, which was intended to reinforce the prestige and authority of its builder on the borders of the empire. A remarkable mural in pure Byzantine style from the early 11th century still bears witness to this. Saint-Laurent church is located near the museum and the village square. Its silhouette stands out in the heart of Ename village.
