BOOK TOUR (BOEKENTOREN)
Library of 64 m high for 24 floors with an architecture mixing modernism and Art Deco
Rue Rozier is dominated by Ghent's fourth tower, the library of the city's university. At 64 meters high and with 24 floors, it's not to be missed. Its architecture is a blend of modernism and Art Deco. It was designed in 1932 by Henry Van de Velde. Along with Victor Horta, he was one of Belgium's two leading Art Nouveau architects before 1914. Van de Velde quickly moved towards a modernist language, as evidenced by the tower.
