TOWN HALL (STADHUIS)
City Hall with a remarkable building in Damme, with a huge roof and a gothic facade decorated with statues.
A remarkable building built in the 15th century, it has a huge roof and a Gothic facade decorated with statues representing Philip of Alsace, Joan and Margaret of Constantinople, Philip of Thietta, Charles the Bold and Margaret of York. The clock, which is still working, dates from 1459, as does the carillon of 39 bells. The statue, which stands in front of the town hall, depicts Jacob Van Maerlant, a 13th-century Flemish poet buried in the Church of Our Lady.
