ABBEY MILL
Mill dating from the seventeenth
The location offers panoramic views over the Noordduinen nature reserve. The mill dates back to the 17th century, but was moved from Houtem to Koksijde in 1954 and finally restored in 1984. It was - and still is - a flour mill and belongs to the very select club - six members still standing - of mills with three stacked granaries. Mills abound in the region, but this one was the studio of the painter Jean Luypaert. Patrick, one of the last millers, will be delighted to show you how wheat is still ground at a rate of 150 kg per hour.
