SINT-WILLIBRORDUS CHURCH

The famous neo-Romanesque Sint-Willibrordus (St. Willibrord) church stands in the centre of Middelkerke. Its towers dating from the 17th century were once used as a lighthouse. In the right nave is the miraculous cross that was buried on the beach in the 16th century to protect it from the intrusion of iconoclasts. The sea "restored" it in 1657. The cross was saved. The fishermen saw it as a miracle. The cross then received a place of honour in the church. Do not hesitate to push the door to admire its beautiful interior volumes.
