WESTFRONT NIEUWPOORT
Westfront Museum located at the edge of the lock complex, tracing the history of the German troops stopped at the city gates.
In Nieuwpoort, this interactive museum was created for the centenary of the Great War in 2014. The Westfront Museum is located beneath the King Albert I Monument, on the edge of the "Ganzepoot" lock complex. It tells the story of the German troops who were stopped at the city gates thanks to an ingenious idea: flooding the polders, in this case the Yser plain. The visit ends with a projection of the Yser panorama, a 115 m long and 15 m high painting. At the top of the monument, you can enjoy a splendid view of the coast and polders.
