SAINT-BERNARD
Statue of a Saint Bernard dog in bronze, 1.2 m x 0.90 m, installed on the Hendrikaplein square
A bronze Saint Bernard dog decorates the Hendrikaplein square and evokes the patron saint of Nieuwpoort-Bain. Every year at the end of August, he receives the company of dozens of lively fellow dogs during the hectic St. Bernard festivities, where the atmosphere is guaranteed thanks to the fireworks (even if the dogs do not have a small alcoholic barrel at their collar!). This work of art, measuring 1.20 m by 0.90 m and inaugurated on 21 August 1998, was created by Monique Mol de Beauvoorde, who took the dog Vainqueur Van 't Roodhuis, a native of La Panne, as her model.
