JAMES ENSOR HOUSE
House of James Ensor, a famous Belgian painter, engraver and anarchist, where he spent the last years of his life.
This is the house where James Ensor, famous Belgian painter, engraver and anarchist, spent the last 32 years of his life. He inherited it in 1917 from his uncle, Leopold Haeghman, who - like Ensor's parents a little further down the street - ran a seashell and souvenir store. Most of his paintings were created in the attic studio of his parents' house. However, it was so cramped that he was never able to complete his absolute masterpiece: The Entry of Christ into Brussels!
