ST. JOHN'S CHURCH
Gothic style church in Poperinge, home to the Virgin Mary, and known as a famous place of pilgrimage to Our Lady
Gothic style church built in the 13th century, whose 1295 bell tower was miraculously spared by the bombings of the two world wars, as well as the choir which was restored between 1860 and 1890. The rest of the building, on the other hand, did not survive. After the damage, it was rebuilt each time. It is home to the Virgin, who is said to have produced a miracle in 1479: a procession in her honour takes place every first Sunday in July. It is known above all as a renowned place of pilgrimage to Our Lady.
