CELLS FOR CONVICTS AND PLACE OF EXECUTION
A memorial in Poperinge, housing the cells of French, Belgian and British soldiers who died "executed at dawn".
A little-known page in history, some French, Belgian and British soldiers did not die in combat, but were "executed at dawn". Because they had gone out without permission, because they had drunk too much or because, terrified, they had refused to return to combat, they were arrested without trial, thrown into cells and executed at dawn, in secret. In this completely renovated memorial, visitors can tour the cells, the courtyard and the firing squad.
