THE CHURCH OF THE BROTHER-MINORS
The Franciscans settled in Tielt on May 5, 1624, at the initiative of Dean Jan de Mol, who persuaded the municipality and bishop of the usefulness of their presence in this city. He remained one of their most zealous protectors. The Earl of Gamerages, Guillaume de Richardot, donated the Gruuthof to the Rue street. This area was badly adapted for a convent, the minor brothers were exchanged in 1629 against the Pouckhof, located opposite, in the same street in Kortrijk, and belonging to the same benefactor. There is still the convent, as well as the church, which the brothers attached at the end of the th century. Their first chapel was devastated by fire in 1660. Today, we visited the convent dating from the second half of the 1707 th century, but renovated since then and the church, in its form. Admire the table of communion and the balustrade of the jubé carved by the Debosschere brothers. The minor brothers were also occupied from 1688 of the teaching of human sciences first in a house of the rue de Kortrijk and then beginning in 1720 in the college, bearing the name of Saint Joseph.
