THE MAYOR'S OFFICE
Town hall of Tielt with a covered gallery, a hospital, a municipal festival hall and a nuns' chapel
Under the Ancien Régime, the domain where the present town hall is built belonged to the convent of the Alexian sisters. The nuns had their Coornehuuze, a house for weighing grain. This building disappeared in 1871 to make way for the facade of the present town hall. A long room with a covered gallery, probably the hospital, was the second part of this building. This space serves as the municipal festival hall, commonly called the Casino. The third part, now the entrance hall, housed the nuns' chapel.
