The passage linking the Grand-Place to the Church Saint-Pierre was transformed into a monument commemorating the liberation of the Nazi yoke by the Poles on 8 September 1944. This monument is also a tribute to patriotic resistance. Before taking his name to the patron saint of Poland, the passage was named Puyssens-Hol. Indeed, the Spuyssens family had its home where the carriages went, a narrow and dark opening. The popular tradition has thus kept this memory alive.
