Olivier, born around 1434, humble son of Jean de Neckere, barber on the Grand-place, was promised to a great fate. In 1458, he met the French dolphin, Louis de Valois (future Louis XI), who, fleeing from his father's wrath, was going to Tielt. A lasting friendship noua between the young barber and the future king, who made him his majordomo. When the dolphin was crowned, Olivier was named a royal barber. The first barber of the kingdom was even charged by his protector of secret and delicate missions that did not earn him friends. As a reward for his zeal, Louis XI octroya him in 1474. For twenty years, Olivier le Dain was the right arm of the King of France. When, in 1483, the king died, Olivier, deprived of his protector, was tried and sentenced in haste by an avid nobility of revenge.
