The very first town hall dates back to the time when Torhout received its privilege and statues from the hands of Philip of Alsace.

The very first town hall dates back to the time when Torhout received its privileges and statutes from Philip of Alsace. At the end of the 16th century, it was plundered and burned to the ground. A new building was erected in the early 17th century, but this too was destroyed by fire. In the early 18th century, a new town hall was built in the German Baroque style on the same site as all its medieval predecessors. In 1943, the town hall was listed as a historic monument. A building not to be missed!
