PEÓN'S HACIENDA SOTUTA
Hacienda to visit to understand the backstage and the functioning of the haciendas of henequen at the end of the XIX century.
The hacienda Sotuta de Peón, "hacienda viva", is a must visit if you want to understand the behind-the-scenes workings of the haciendas ofhenequén at the end of the 19th century, which enabled the Yucatán Peninsula to build up an immense fortune. The guided tour, which lasts 3 hours, is fun and really informative, as it recreates the entire process of exploitation and production of the so-called "green gold", from the harvesting to the manufacture of ropes, including the stages of defibration and compression of the fibre. Moving around the hacienda is done on wooden platforms pulled by mules, a system that was used at the time to transporthenequen within the property. But this place is not only a living museum, you can extend the experience by sleeping on site. The luxurious establishment has beautiful and spacious rooms and many complementary activities are offered to make you want to stay even longer: horse or carriage rides, massage services... but also a beautiful swimming pool. Around the hacienda, several cenotes, including the cenote Dzul-Há, invite you to swim in wilder waters. To regain your strength, the restaurant offers a tasting menu of Yucatan gastronomy. And if you missed the group visits, we'll arrange a private evening tour for you. A visit not to be missed.
