CHACCHOBEN ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA
An archaeological area dating back to 200 BC in Chacchoben
The occupation of this site would date back to 200 BC. Initially built according to the characteristics of the cities of the Petén to which Chacchoben could have been subjected, its growth during the following 500 years would integrate the intermingled styles of Río Bec and Chen. Little is known about the city except that it suffered partial abandonment in the mid-eighth century, before some of the buildings of the civic and religious center were rehabilitated and repopulated in the Late Postclassic period.
