Every year, to mark the end of winter and the arrival of spring, before Orthodox Easter, a carnival is organized in Štrpce/Shërpcë. This carnival, linked to the Orthodox religious calendar, would however have pagan roots. The carnival workers, dressed up, simulate the arrival of the city's nobles at the wedding of Prince Marko Kraljević. On this day, specific dishes are prepared, but always without meat. The carnival marks the first day of fasting, also called Procka, which will last six weeks.
