Every year, to mark the end of winter and the arrival of spring, before the Orthodox Easter, a carnival is organized in Štrpce/Shërpcë. This carnival, linked to the Orthodox religious calendar, would however have pagan roots. The carnival workers, dressed up, simulate the arrival of the city's nobles at the wedding of Prince Marko Kraljević. The carnival is marked by humorous skits related to the celebration of this wedding. On this day, specific dishes are prepared, but always without meat. Carnival marks thefirst day of the six-week june.
