THE ROMAN THEATER
A Roman theater in Autun, built around 70 A.D., offering a show that takes you back in time.
Built around 70 AD, to the east of the ancient city (not far from the Vallon lake), the theater was designed for dramatic performances. At 148 metres in diameter, it was the second largest in the Roman world, seating 20,000 spectators. Leaning on the natural slope of the land, the theater still offers the remains of its tiers arranged in three rows. At nightfall, on certain evenings in July and August, don't miss the Augustodunum show, a huge sound and light show, a journey through time with hundreds of extras.
