LA CHAPELLE DES MOINES
Chapel famous for its unique murals, the only surviving examples of Cluniac monumental painting.
This chapel, built in the early 12th century on the initiative of Hugues de Semur, abbot of Cluny, was part of a priory of which it is now the last vestige. Visitors interested in Romanesque art can admire numerous traces of painted decoration and an upper chapel famous for its unique murals, the only evidence of Cluny monumental painting at the time of the abbey's apogee. Owned by the Académie de Mâcon since 1947, the chapel has been managed by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux since 2017.
