LES PIERRES AUX SAINTS
These five rocks turn out to be funerary stelae.
Leave the car in the hamlet of Chapey and walk for about ten minutes to meet these stones on the side of the road. Discovered by farmers on a Gallo-Roman road, they were straightened in 1951. Convinced that they brought them good luck, they named them Stones of the Saints. These five rocks turned out to be funerary stelae, confirming a Celtic occupation in the5th century BC. The sculptures that can be seen refer to a deity. They include a woman with a child, a young man with his arms outstretched, a timeworn statue, a crude busted figure and a full-length woman.
