HOSPITAL DE LA SANTA RESURRECCIÓN
Hospital founded by Dona Catalina to help the poor and needy
Popularly known as "El hospitalito", it has opened its doors to public visits since 2017. It was in 1514 that Doña Catalina de Perea founded this hospital with the aim of helping the poor and needy, using one of the houses she owned, near the church of Santiago El Mayor. This work was ratified by a papal bull, which is still preserved by the foundation, which continues to manage this house. After five centuries of history, this hospital house continued to allow the delivery of women until 1975 and then became a home for the elderly until 2010 and now occupies part of its outbuildings as a center for children. Although its origins date back to the 16th century, the building underwent major renovations between the 18th and 20th centuries and the whole building is the sum of the different construction stages. There are two parts to the building: a functional part that is still partially occupied but cannot be visited, and a historical part, which can be visited. The beauty of the patios is immediately noticeable, including the central patio, the magnificent chapel, the meeting room and the library. Of the two galleries leading to the main patio, the first is the oldest, with a Mudejar pillar from the 16th century. Also noteworthy is the 18th-century portal to the dining room and the former dormitory for the elders.
