CENOTES
Five cenotes that stand out in Homun: Tza Ujun Kat, Santa Rosa, Santa Maria Cave and Cenote, Yaxbakaltun and Balmil
Among the dozens of cenotes in the area, there are five that stand out because their access and infrastructure allow for relatively easy visits:
Cenote Tza Ujun Kat. Located in front of the village cemetery, this is also where you can meet the guides and their motorcycle cabs to plan your visit. This large cenote has a large opening through which the sun streams in happily. Its waters are emerald green and it has shallow and very deep parts. Ideal for families because it is very accessible.
Cenote Santa Rosa. Next to the soccer field, it is completely covered and only thin rays of sunlight penetrate it; the use of artificial lighting creates a special and quite magical atmosphere. Wooden stairs lead down to its turquoise water. The place has a tourist center with a restaurant and cabañas.
Santa María Cave and Cenote. A few blocks from the center, this is one of the most fun tours because it includes a visit to a cave and requires walking along an underground river to reach the chamber where the cenote is located; for the adventurous.
Cenote Yaxbakaltún. Outside the village, it is reached by a dirt road. It is one of the largest and most spectacular; more than half of its ceiling has collapsed, so it is perfectly lit and sunny.
Cenote Balmil. Outside the village, its entrance is marked by a large poplar tree and the cenote has capricious rock formations. Turquoise water.
