L’HÔTEL-DIEU
Hotel built in the early century on the initiative of Cardinal de Bouillon, Abbot of Cluny
Parallel to the development of the Cluny abbey, the first hospitals began to be built as early as the 12th century. The Hôtel-Dieu was one such hospital. The building was erected in the early 18th century on the initiative of Cardinal de Bouillon, abbot of Cluny. It grew out of the Cluny hospital institutions of the Middle Ages and the creation of the Hôpital Notre-Dame. Visitors can explore the chapel and the Salle Saint-Lazare, with its wood panelling and furnishings. Display cases show religious objects and ornaments, as well as numerous relics.
