LA RONDE DU COUCHOIS
A festival inviting you to discover the AOC, the heritage and the villages of Couches.
La Ronde du Couchois was born over 20 years ago. Conceived in 2001 to follow the creation of the Côte du Couchois red appellation, this festival invites visitors to discover the AOC, its heritage and the surrounding villages. The winegrowers of the Côte du Couchois are proud of their terroirs: they belong neither to the Côte de Beaune nor to the Côte Chalonnaise, and they claim it! The Couchois region has its own identity. With its varied, undulating landscapes, it offers winemakers a unique playground. In fact, they make every effort to vinify their wines on a parcel-by-parcel basis, so as to express all the characteristics of the clay-rich soil.
In the bottle, the reds and whites express freshness and ageing potential. They have nothing to be ashamed of when compared to the great Burgundy appellations. More than 380 ha of vines are cultivated in the Couchois region, including 73 ha in the Côte du Couchois red appellation. The Union des producteurs de Côte du Couchois is now awaiting certification of the Chardonnay in Côte du Couchois Blanc. More than a simple recognition, this would be the consecration of the work and passion of the twenty or so winegrowers who work these vines. What's more, a potential 600 ha can be replanted on land formerly under vines. It's a wonderful prospect for the winegrowers spread across the villages of Couches, Dracy-lès-Couches, Saint-Maurice-lès-Couches and Saint-Sernin-du-Plain, who are looking to raise the profile of their terroir.
