Although this cave (named after a church in Lalibela) is less spectacular than Genet Mariam, it is well worth a stroll of a few hours. Here you'll find a troglodyte church built at the bottom of a vast cave overhung by a rock. Made entirely of stone and wood, it is built in the Axumite tradition. According to local lore, it was built by three virgins during the reign of Gebre Meskel around 500 A.D. It features astonishing geometric and figurative motifs, including hunting scenes with a Cyclops lion.
