MONASTERY OF AROUCA - MOSTEIRO
Female monastery linked to Mafalda who was welcomed there in the 13th century, with a church housing her tomb and the Museum of Sacred Art.
The monastery of Santa Mafalda was mainly a female monastery, linked to Mafalda who was welcomed there in the 13th century. The monastery was dissolved in 1806. Inside the church, don't miss the traces of its medieval origins, such as a rose window dating back to the 14th century, and then the Baroque ones, such as the magnificent wooden altarpieces. The tomb of Mafalda is on the right side of the nave. To be combined with a visit to the Museum of Sacred Art, in the convent's outbuildings.
