More than just a market, the one in the charming town of Louhans is a real institution that is among the things to do or see when you come to this part of the Saône-et-Loire. Every Monday morning, it stretches all along the arcades on the cobblestones to the fairgrounds and each corner has its own speciality. In the main street, there are wardrobes and space for clothes and accessories, in the alleys around the church are the stalls of local market gardeners and producers and in the Place de la Grenette the trend is towards organic produce. As for the fairgrounds, there is the famous poultry market (sensitive souls should refrain) with poultry, rabbits, sheep, cows and pigs, live animals waiting to be bought. A typical Bresse atmosphere that you will gladly prolong over a glass of wine on the terrace, a slice of strong cheese on toast or at one of the tables offering the local speciality: the famous calf's head. The place is classified as a "Remarkable Site of Taste" and is truly a "must see".
