A museum dedicated to the transmission of historical knowledge, retracing the history of France from 1870 to the present day in Mâcon
Attention history buffs, and military history buffs in particular! Created by Jean-Claude Bernardet, a native of Mâconnais, the Mémorial Citoyen retraces the history of France from 1870 to the present day. It evokes the various major conflicts: the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, the two world wars, the wars in Indochina and North Africa, and the more recent conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Gulf war... The Citizen Memorial is made up of several rooms and areas. On the first floor, you'll see headdresses, badges and crests from the world's police and gendarmerie forces, as well as a number of military uniforms. In the entrance hall, two exhibits present the First French Army and the Second Armored Division. On the second floor, in nine rooms, visitors can discover the various barracks and regiments of Saône-et-Loire, as well as the different conflicts that shook our countries from 1870 to the present day, through books, objects and uniforms obtained through research and donations. A unique place of learning, history and remembrance.
