VIEUX SAINT-VINCENT
Old cathedral of Saint-Vincent in Mâcon, classified as a historical monument, preserving only the 2 towers connected to each other
The two towers and the Romanesque narthex are the only remains of the former Saint-Vincent cathedral, built in the 6th century. Destroyed and rebuilt several times, it is now a listed historic monument. Today, it's closed to the public, but the exterior is well worth a visit, on a self-guided or guided tour with the tourist office. You'll have to be patient for a few more years before you can marvel at its interior again, as a fund-raising campaign has been launched for the end of 2023 to begin major renovation work and create a footbridge between the two towers.
