PURA PURU SADA
A must-see Hindu temple in Mengwi, an sanctuary with a superb pavilion and numerous padmasana.
This shrine dates from the 18th century. After the defeat of the kingdom in 1891, it was left abandoned before being restored in the 1950s. The large candi bentar at the entrance is original. Now one enters through a small side gate into the first courtyard of the temple where a beautiful pavilion and numerous padmasana stand in a row behind three large altars which are said to represent the captains of a ship carrying the ashes of a Mojopahit emperor. The large brick tower with eleven roofs is said to evoke a crematory tower. Also beautiful ceramics.
