MAISON JAYET

In the sixteenth century, the Maison Jayet is probably one of the most beautiful Renaissance facades in France. It was built (between 1525 and 1528) to a rich drapier named Pierre Jayet. Its stone facade is richly decorated with shell and medallions representing, allegedly because nothing is established with certainty, the kings of France and some notable of the city. We call the Maison Jayet, House of Dolls because of the presence of carved cherubins. One, a flute player, is located on a window while two other cherubins, non-musicians, complete the décor of Maison Jayet. Completely renovated in 1994, this sumptuous hotel is home to the city hall.
