A magnificent archaeological site which also houses a rich museum on Gallic life, built on the slopes of Mount Beuvray.

Located in the heart of Burgundy, Bibracte is an outstanding natural and archaeological site that has been awarded the Grand Site de France label since 2007. In the heart of the extraordinary Morvan Regional Nature Park, the site invites you to discover the richness of Celtic civilization in the 2nd and 1st centuries B.C. Indeed, the ancient city of Bibracte was built on Mont Beuvray by the Gallic Aedui people. It was also at Bibracte that Vercingetorix organized the first general uprising of the Gallic tribes against the Romans in 52 BC.

Covering almost 200 hectares, this magnificent site offers visitors a wide range of activities combining the discovery of majestic nature with scientific and historical knowledge. Put on your walking shoes and set off for 2 hours in the company of a guide who knows all about the history of Bibracte, the work of archaeologists, the evolution of the landscape and the local wildlife.

The Bibracte site also houses a museum where you can follow in the footsteps of the archaeologists, discovering the daily life of the inhabitants of Bibracte and the urbanization of Celtic Europe. At Bibracte, you'll find fascinating archaeological exhibits, as well as models and videos, so you can feel like you've stepped back in time and get a better idea of the daily life of our ancestors.

You'll also be able to sample the cuisine of our ancestors at Le Chaudron restaurant. Treat yourself to a Gallic family day, when you'll discover the ingredients of Gallic cuisine, taste the cereals and fresh herbs used in Gallic dishes and eat from Celtic crockery, before setting off to explore the archaeological site in the company of a guide.

Nature, too, is worth the detour: with almost 1,000 hectares of forest, Bibracte offers breathtaking panoramas on memorable walking trails. On a clear day, you can even see Mont Blanc.

Bibracte is an exceptional natural and archaeological site, where you can experience history in the open air. To get to know it better, download the new "La Boussole" application, which accompanies you on your journey of discovery. There's a school camp for teenagers and a host of events throughout the season. Depending on the dates, you can, for example, take a walk in the company of birds of prey and their falconers, discover the site in a different way, investigate in the style of "Cluedomus", or take a guided tour of the "hidden face of Mont Beuvray".

Belle visite

At the top of Mont Beuvray, in a superb setting, a museum with modern architecture integrated very well into the environment. The museum is quite successful (the audio guides parasitize almost visit, but it is a very personal view). The site is my indissociable to that of museum. You can reach the top of the hill in shuttle (included in the price) and walk down after a guide. This gives you want to reading again Astérix!
