MAISON DE L’INVENTION DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE
The house where Nicéphore Niépce invented photography in Saint-Loup-de-Varennes.
Born in 1765 in downtown Chalon, Nicéphore Niépce invented photography (more precisely, heliography, as it was then called) in Saint-Loup-de-Varennes, in the summer of 1827, at his family's country house. The first photograph in history, entitled "Le point de vue du gras", taken through one of the windows of this house, is not on display here, but the workshop in which it was taken has been reconstructed. The passionate inventor is buried in the village cemetery.
