MAGASIN D'USINE GERBE
Founded in 1904 by Stéphane Gerbe, the Gerbe stockings and pantyhose company promotes 100% French manufacturing. It is certified as a Living Heritage Company.
The story. In 1904, after inheriting a haberdashery and wholesale knitwear business in Cluny, Stéphane Gerbe decided to found his own company. The Gerbe establishments were created with the desire to sublimate women's legs. In 1914, more than a hundred women workers occupied the various positions in the workshops. In 1925, hand looms were replaced by industrial machines in order to modernize. In 1936, Stéphane Gerbe retired and was succeeded by his two sons: André and Paul. That same year, Gerbe launched the very first stocking, called "Bas Carnation". Knitted on a flat machine with a back seam, this sock is the emblem of artisanal production. It was a must have of the time because it symbolized the French elegance of the post-war period. This product, which is still available today, is the pride of Maison Gerbe. In 1951, due to its unique know-how and international reputation, the Parisian haute couture house Christian Dior gave Gerbe the exclusive right to create its stockings and later its tights. This collaboration will last for 50 years. In 1980, 800 people worked in Saint Vallier. Gerbe is recognized as the market leader in stockings and pantyhose. In 2007, the Maison Gerbe, which has existed for more than a hundred years, was awarded the EPV label. The production of the products remains traditional and the pieces are shaped one by one by hand. From 2010, Gerbe continues to accessorize the biggest names and forge privileged links with haute couture by participating in several fashion shows during Fashion Week. In 2015, Gerbe is revitalising itself thanks to new opportunities and is taking advantage of them to develop internationally, particularly on the Asian continent.
The products. Tights, stockings, knee-highs, garters, socks... Invisible, opaque, matt, iridescent, embroidered, sculpting, sewn with gold thread, there is something for everyone!
