MAIRIE DE TOURNUS
As a historic and gourmet town counting more than 6,000 inhabitants located halfway between Mâcon and Chalon-sur-Saône, Tournus, called the Door of the South, boasts 4 starred restaurants! This birthplace of the painter Jean-Baptiste Greuze attracts visitors who are charmed by the historic aspect of the city, its traboules, its docks of the Saône, its good gourmet stages and its many entertainments. There are numerous yachtsmen making a stop along the Saône and stay there a few days in the city to benefit from the large Saturday market. The downtown offers you numerous quality shops with its medieval houses and its traboules to discover. Located at rue de l'Hôpital, the old hospices dating back to the 16th and 18th centuries accommodate the Dieu Musée Greuze hotel now where you can visit the hospices part with its three patient rooms as well as the museum exhibiting paintings, sculptures and contemporary works. You should not especially miss to visit the Saint-Philibert abbey, the Sainte-Madeleine church, the Saint-Laurent chapel, the Saint-Valérien church and the Musée du Vélo which recalls the little queen's history!
