Terraced gardens are an integral part of Avallon's history and beauty
They are an integral part of Avallon's history and beauty. The presence of terrace gardens dates back to the year 600. At the time, they were used by monks to grow fruit, vegetables and medicinal herbs, not forgetting vines in a few plots. Abandoned in the 1950s with the development of the food trade, these private gardens can now count on the Traverses association to encourage their preservation. Some are open to the public from time to time, notably for cultural events.
