This Cistercian priory founded in the early thirteenth century by monks from the Val-des-Choues abbey in Côte-d'Or stands on the edge of a vast forest. The lack of water points nearby compelled them to develop an ingenious system of sloped roofs so as to collect rain water. The cloister has a charming garden and the abbey a fabulous library with rich books, including those of Buffon. Exhibitions and concerts are organised in summer.

Opening time and information on PRIEURÉ DE VAUSSE

The church, transformed into library, is not visited any more, but it is possible to walk in the garden. Open the weekends and public holidays in May, June and September; Wednesday to Sunday from July 1st to August 31st. To contact for the schedule and rates.
